A Seed Matching Activity for Preschoolers: One Seed for Each Pot

Three seeds, three pots, and one small question: can every pot have one seed? This printable picture activity is for ages 4–6 with a grown-up. A pencil and crayons are enough; no real seeds or soil are needed.

The outlined word seed above three seed drawings and three empty pots. The instruction says Give each pot one seed.
An actual activity page from Little Science Mysteries.

Look and count together

The image above is an actual page from Little Science Mysteries. Point to the word seed and say it together. Find the three seed drawings, then count the three pots. Your child can point and talk before making any marks.

Match one seed to each pot

Invite your child to point from one seed to one pot. On a printed copy, they can draw a line between them. Continue with the other seeds and pots.

If the lines get confusing, look for a pot that has not been matched yet. Ask, “Which seed could go here?” These are optional adult conversation prompts, not extra worksheets or a timed test.

Color, then check the pairs

Let your child color the word seed and the drawings in any colors they choose. Look at the finished page together: “Does every pot have one seed?” Stop when your child has had enough; completing the whole page is optional.

This is a paper matching activity. It does not demonstrate germination and does not require planting supplies.

Print a page when you are ready

The book uses US Letter paper, 8.5 × 11 inches. For A4, use Fit in the printer settings and check the preview. Select only the page you want rather than printing the entire book.

The free six-page preview lets you inspect the book’s actual pages before buying. Check the preview contents to choose an activity; it is a selection, not the full book.
